The Cure addresses the universal problem of what is generally called “politics.” I am referring here, of course, to corporate politics - organizational politics - not the kind that involves people getting elected. In The Cure, written in collaboration with Dan Paul, the political agendas of the various management power centers within the company have become so dysfunctional that the health of the company is in jeopardy. The treatment, based on methods worked out by Dan Paul and his firm, is a matter of finding out what’s really going on, corraling senior management, getting all the facts - especially the ugly ones - out in the open, and obliging everyone to deal with reality over an extended period of time. It’s about a year-long process, but apparently it does work, as evidenced by the turnarounds experienced by so many of Paul’s clients.
